Grade 6 students – ‘Sink or Swim?’

Friday, September 23rd, 2011

The Grade 6 MYP students have completed their ‘Sink or Swim?’ unit where they have spent much time these first two weeks of school discussing organizational skills and habits. They are now working on having systems in place and goals to achieve for this term. As part of their final assessment task for this unit, students have agreed that they need to communicate these systems and goals to their parents in order to convince them that they are indeed ready for Grade 6 at Aspengrove.  Parents were escorted this morning by their child around the school to show how they’ve organized their lockers, binders, textbooks and electronic profiles so that they can have a successful year. They also shared with their parents their goals for approaches to learning this term and how they plan on achieving these goals.

Well done Grade 6’s – you’re on your way to achieving great things this year!

International Day of Peace – Pinwheels for Peace Project

Wednesday, September 21st, 2011

Aspengrove’s Junior Division students showed their enthusiasm and dedication to international peace by participating in the Pinwheels for Peace Project again this year.  Students created individual pinwheels with messages and artwork reflecting their hopes and dreams for global peace which they then planted on school property so that those messages could be carried by the wind to the four corners of the world.

Ice Cream for Readers!

Thursday, September 15th, 2011

Mrs. Robertson, our school Librarian, challenged our students to read at least five books over hte summer and if they did so, they would earn an invitation to the annual Ice Cream Sundae Party!

Students were lined up out the door to the party today awaiting their bowl of ice cold dairy or non-dairy dream, complete with their choice of fruit or other toppings.

Welcome!

Friday, September 9th, 2011

The Aspengrove Board of Directors hosted a pancake breakfast this morning at 7:30 am to welcome new and returning students and childcare families to Aspengrove School and Early Learning Centre.

A few of our directors showed their skill at flipping pancakes and one brave high school student took up the ‘Man vs. Food’ challenge consuming a giant pancake.

When the school bell rang at 8:30 many of our students had a full stomache and were ready for another great day!
