It was a beautiful day at Aspengrove as we welcomed the riders of this year’s Tour de Rock for their annual visit. Spirits are always high as the Cops for Cancer ride onto campus and share their journey with the Aspengrove Community. We were pleased to also welcome members of the Lantzville Fire Department and our local government who came to be a part of this important day.

Our student council welcomed the Cops, our grade 6 class lead them in a whole school cheer and we presented the riders with a cheque for $6,000 raised through the sale of “Create Shirts” and a challenge by three staff members who offered to shave their heads if more than $5,000 was pledged.

The highlight of the visit for many came shortly after the riders said goodbye and rode off campus as Ms. Anglea Nixon addressed the school. Angela, with her husband Simon by her side, shared a bit of their family story and why Camp Goodtimes and the Tour meant so much to them. Their daughter Chelsea was a junior rider with the Tour this year and last as the Aspengrove PYP student bravely fought and won her battle with cancer. Angela also spoke about Terry Fox as her address marked the beginning to our Annual Terry Fox run.

The Cops have ridden off for another year but you still have a few days to pledge your support to the Aspengrove fundraising effort if you’d like to join. And please consider joining us in the upper parking lot at 12:45 on Friday as Mr Hutchison, Mr. Eriksson and Mrs. Kingstone go under the clippers – a show of support for all those fighting cancer and a thank you to everyone who contributed to the Tour this year.

Thank you to AGS Parent Ron Hayes for the photographs.
