Over the April 28-29 weekend, the Aspengrove Ultimate Frisbee team travelled to Burlington, Washington to compete in the high school tournament, Spring Reign. Spring Reign is an annual tournament that attracts ultimate teams from across the west side of North America with teams from Washington, Montana, Oregon, Idaho and BC playing. The weather could have been worse with only light rain all weekend.
The team travelled to Washington on Friday evening and competed in four games on Saturday and then two more games the next day.  This gave the 14 players, ranging from Grade 10 – 12, a lot of play time. The intention of travelling to this tournament was to give the players experience with the game and showcase the spirit of the sport. Ultimate Frisbee is known for the sportsmanlike manner its participants exhibit, and Spring Reign put a high emphasis on this aspect of the game. Ultimate is self-refereed, and players have to know when and how to make rule calls. The Aspengrove players fit in well with this culture and many other teams commented on their enjoyment while playing our team.
The ultimate season continues into early June with practices on Friday afternoons for students in Grade 8 – 12.  New players are welcome.
