Director of Academics

Aspengrove School is inviting applications from passionate, enthusiastic and experienced educators for the position of Director of Academics, K-12. The Director of Academics is a member of the senior leadership team and reports directly to the Head of School. This is a .8 FTE position commencing August 15, 2019.

An independent co-educational day school, Aspengrove is located in Nanaimo, BC on beautiful Vancouver Island. We are an International Baccalaureate Continuum school that serves students from pre-K to grade 12. As a small school with a dedicated faculty and staff, we provide an excellent learning and teaching environment that is collaborative and innovative. Aspengrove School is a place where students and teachers work together to explore the opportunities of the IB curriculum and their passions as learners and members of a strong community. Our 40 acre rural-suburban campus setting affords rich opportunities for students and teachers to engage in a meaningful learning journey. The successful candidate will be interested in working with a community of committed educators.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Administrative duties:
    • Lead academic team meetings;
    • Plan collaborative and professional development time for teaching faculty;
    • Work with the academic leadership team and Assistant Heads on timetable, schedule, course selection, exam schedule;
    • Ensure compliance with IB and BC Ministry requirements, JK-12;
    • Oversee the ongoing management of the academic program
  • Professional Growth:
    • Oversee the ongoing design and implementation of the professional growth model to support all teaching faculty;
    • Work with Assistant Heads as a core team to support teacher excellence;
    • Facilitate faculty professional development goals and growth
  • Strategic Plan:
    • Lead and implement key action items to advance the current strategic plan;
    • Work with the Head of School, the academic leadership team and staff to advance the academic program of the school.

Qualifications

  • BC Teacher Certification
  • Advanced Degree in Education
  • 5-10 years experience teaching in an International Baccalaureate program
  • Experience as an IB Coordinator an asset
  • Demonstrated experience in a leadership role in education
