Meet our Head of School: Mr. Mark Pierotti
We are very pleased to welcome Mr. Mark Pierotti as our new Head of School. Mr. Pierotti’s appointment is the culmination of an extensive and exhaustive search by the search committee and Board of Governors with the assistance of the professional recruiting firm, Odgers Berndtson.
Mark is an accomplished leader in education who is joining the Aspengrove community after a successful 30 year career in independent schools on the east and west coasts of the US. He will bring to Aspengrove his experience as a teacher, Dean of Students, Academic Dean, Principal, and Head of School. He also has extensive experience with the IB (International Baccalaureate) program and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in English from Loyola University and a Master’s Degree in Liberal Arts from Johns Hopkins University.
Mr. Pierotti‘s passion lies in strategic visioning and allowing school communities to realize their full potential both on campus and in the local community. Mark has worked with non-profits, schools, and universities to lead strategic planning, governance, and advancement initiatives as well as mentoring educational leaders and board chairs. Aspengrove’s determination as a young school committed to offering a well-rounded education focused on the individual strength of each student attracted Mark to Nanaimo. He is excited by the possibilities of tying the work of Aspengrove to the current and future needs of Vancouver Island.
In his spare time, Mark is an avid chef, volunteer, and classical British Literature buff. He is married to Frank Brightwell who founded a non-profit that serves a remote community in the Dominican Republic, providing medical and dental services to a marginalized population of 10,000 people. They have a place in the California desert and, along with their rescue dog BP, are thrilled to become a part of the Aspengrove and Nanaimo community.
